Debates about the connection between the mind and the body date all the way back to ancient times. Today, we might finally have plausible answers. Neurologists have been diligently working on mapping areas of the brain where specific emotions occur, and how these target areas interact with other parts of the brain. As it turns out, the mind-body connection seems to be very strong indeed.
Psychologists look at how we experience emotions as well, but the focus is more on how we can better regulate our emotions by taking certain actions. When we are able to understand our own emotions better, we can begin to master how we react to specific stimuli. A mature emotional response to a highly charged situation involves feeling and acknowledging our emotions without being controlled by them. Have a look at the infographic below to see some of the various roles our brain plays in our daily lives.
